A 55-year-old man appeared in the Brits Magistrates’ court on Monday on 15 charges of sexually assaulting small boys.
“The accused was arrested on Friday, 8 November 2019 for the alleged sexual assault of 15 learners in Bethanie outside Brits. According to information available at this stage, reports suggest that information was received from an educator about apparent sexual assault of boys aged between 7 and 11,” said police spokesperson, Brigadier Sabata Mokgwabone.
A police investigation ensued and the accused was arrested after a learner disclosed information to the local Community policing forum (CPF) members during a school safety session.
According to Mokgwabone, the accused would lure the victims to his place, offer them money and in turn touched them indecently.
The man was remanded in custody until Wednesday, 20 November 2019, when he will appear in the Brits Magistrates’ Court again on 15 counts of sexual assault.
“Investigation into the matter continues.”
The Provincial Commissioner of North West, Lieutenant General Baile Motswenyane condemned the incidents and thanked the CPF members for their active participation that led to exposure and apprehension of the accused.
She said that the arrest clearly shows that cooperation between the police and the community is key in the fight against crime.
