A woman lost R3 000 after her bank card was switched during an ATM scam at Sediba Plaza on Saturday.
“The woman was withdrawing money when a man approached under the pretense that he had dropped his ATM slip.
The woman’s card got stuck in the ATM and the man told her to put in her pin to release it.
In the mean time he had swapped her card and seen her pin. A few minutes later, R3 000 was withdrawn from her account at a nearby fuel station,” said Romano van der Spuy, chairman of the Hartbeespoort community policing forum.
“The CPF once again warns bank clients not to accept help from strangers in any circumstances. If you see people hanging around the ATM, leave and use another ATM or supermarket to withdraw money.”
