A total of 197 suspects were arrested during a successful police operation in the Brits cluster last weekend.
“The offences included drinking in public, illegal possession of drugs, use of dagga in public, driving under the influence of liquor, non-compliance with the Liquor Act (Act No 27 of 1989), illegal dealing with liquor without a license as well as contravention of the Stock Theft Identification Act (Act number 57 of 1959),” said Brits police spokesperson, Maria Nkabinde.
The operation further led to the apprehension of suspects for traffic offences as well as for sexual offences, that included prostitution, public indecency and possession of stolen property. In addition, fifteen undocumented persons were taken in by the Department of Home Affairs for processing.
The suspects appeared before the Brits, Ga-Rankuwa as well as Moretele Magistrates’ courts on Monday, 10 February 2020.
The Acting Cluster Commander of Brits, Brigadier Johan Marx , praised the police for their unwavering efforts in combating crime in the area.
