Madibeng is not the only licensing centre that is still closed, licensing centres in the rest of the North West province have also not yet opened their doors.
The North West Department of Community Safety and Transport Management said on Sunday, 7 June, that the licensing centres would open soon.
MEC Sello Lehari said staff at all licensing centres began to work on 1 June, but they are currently busy with backlogs created by lockdown restrictions and emergency services that are prioritised.
“They are however, also dealing with compliance measures such as social and physical distancing, wearing of masks, screening of people as they enter the premises, as well sanitising and disinfecting. All these measures are to ensure that the public is safe when visiting these centres.,” Lehari said.
MEC Sello Lehari appealed to the public to be patient as the department is working around the clock to ensure public is served while complying completely with lockdown regulations.
The Minister of Transport has announced that driving licences, learners licences and motor vehicle licences that expired between the 26 March 2020 and 31 May 2020, will be given a further grace period of 90 days.
