A 69-year-old man from Brits was arrested and appeared in court for the illegal possession and negligent handling of firearms.
Jonathan Johannes Fourie was arrested by police in Brits on Thursday, 4 June, after police found and seized a .38 special revolver, two shotguns and various ammunition. “The accused failed to give a proper account for the possession,” said police spokesperson, Colonel Adéle Myburgh.
“The arrest came after police followed up on information that illegal firearms were kept at a residence in Boekenhout Street in Brits.”
Fourie appeared in the Brits Magistrates’ Court on Friday, 5 June, for illegal possession and negligent handling of firearms. He was released on R500 bail and will reappear in court on 20 August 2020.
