The Madibeng municipal building, Brits police station, as well as three clinics in the area were closed the past week due to staff members who tested positive for Covid-19.
The Brits hospital also suspended visits due to the surge in Covid-19 cases.
Madibeng closed the doors of the municipal building in Brits on Friday, 3 July, after a staff member tested positive.
“A male person of the provincial government department, based on the 5th floor of the main building tested positive for Covid-19. The case was confirmed in the afternoon of Friday, 3 July,” the municipality said in an internal letter to employees.
“Upon receiving confirmation of the case, the municipality followed the necessary protocols, including the contact-tracing process and reporting the matter to the Department of Health.” The building was closed for the sanitation process over the weekend. It is expected to reopen on Tuesday, 7 July.
The Brits police station was closed for deep-cleaning on Tuesday after another staff member tested positive for Covid-19. This is the third Covid-19 closure since May.
Three health clinics near Brits also closed doors the past week. The clinics in Letlhabile, Bapong and Wonderkop were closed on Tuesday and Wednesday after staff members tested positive for Covid-19. All three clinics were deep-cleaned and reopened on Friday.
