North West MEC dies of Covid-19-related pnueumonia

The MEC for Cooperative Governance, Human Settlement and Traditional Affairs in North West, Gordon Kegakilwe

The MEC for Cooperative Governance, Human Settlement and Traditional Affairs in North West, Gordon Kegakilwe died of pneumonia on Monday after testing positive for Covid-19.

North West Premier, Prof Tebogo Job Mokgoro, said that Kegakilwe died “after a short and serious illness.”

“MEC Kegakilwe was admitted with Covid pneumonia in the Vryburg private hospital on Sunday and was immediately put on oxygen. A decision was taken on Monday morning to transfer him to a medical facility in Klerksdorp. He  was transported from Vryburg to Klerksdorp in an ambulance and upon arrival in Klerksdorp, he suffered a cardiac arrest and despite all the efforts by the medical personnel, he succumbed and lost his life,” Mokgoro said.

The Chief Whip of the African National Congress (ANC) in the North West Provincial Legislature, Paul Sebegoe said Kegakilwe was responsible for the overall provincial coordination of disaster management efforts as well as the water and sanitation Covid-19 interventions rollout in North West.
