Traffic officer knocked over by motorist pretending to stop

A 22-year-old female traffic officer was knocked over by a motorist in Brits who pretended to stop after she flagged him down.

Provincial Inspector Tshepang Masike was on duty in Oukasie, Brits on Thursday, 30 July, and she indicated to a motorist to stop. According to the MEC for the Department of Community Safety and Transport Management, Sello Lehari, it semed like the driver was slowing down to stop but as Masike approached the vehicle, the driver suddenly sped off, hitting her and flinging her to the side of the road.

The officer was immediately rushed to Brits Mediclinic for medical attention. She sustained slight injuries and was later discharged.

A case of reckless and negligent driving was opened and is being investigated by the Brits Police Station.

MEC Sello Lehari appealed to motorists to be respectful towards traffic and law enforcement officers.
