Couple held at gunpoint, dog shot at during house robbery

A couple was held at gunpoint and their dog shot at during an armed robbery in an estate in Melodie in Hartbeespoort early Saturday morning.

The 27-year-old man was overpowered by an armed robber around 04:20 when he let the family’s dog out of the house in the Melodie Waters estate. His wife and child were asleep.

“The dog barked when the intruder entered the property and the suspect shot at the dog after which he confronted the man inside the house,” said police spokesperson, Maria Nkabinde. The man’s wife had woken up and the couple was held at gunpoint and ordered to lie on the ground. The robber fled with valuables such as a laptop,cellular phone, play station and television. No one was injured.
