Covid-19: 2 541 new cases identified on 17 August

The total number of recoveries sits at 477 671, working out to a recovery rate of 80 per cent.

Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize reported that the cumulative total of Covid-19 cases on 17 August was 589 886, with 11 982 recorded deaths thus far.

Gauteng is still the province with the highest number of cases, sitting at 200 237 (33.9 per cent of the total), with KwaZulu-Natal following in second with 106 037 (18 per cent), the Western Cape sits with 102 609 (17.4 per cent) and the Eastern Cape follows in fourth position with 84 092 (14.3 per cent).

Western Cape still remains the province with the highest number of deaths (3 612), closely followed by Gauteng (2 929) and the Eastern Cape (2 567).

A total of 3 415 670 tests have been conducted thus far with 15 032 tests reported to have been conducted between 16 and 17 August.
