A man was hijacked in Broederstroom on Tuesday morning, driven to a veld where he was tied up and left after the hijackers set the veld alight.
“The man, in a Toyota Hilux, was pulling out of the fuel station at the Lanseria/R104 T-junction around 09:00 when three armed men appeared and pointed a firearm at him. They got into the vehicle with him and drove off,” said Arthur Crewe of High Risk Unit SRU. The hijackers turned off to a nearby estate and parked the vehicle in the bushes.
“The man was tied up and the robbers took R2 000 from him. They then set the veld alight and fled in the direction of the estate.”
The man managed to break free and got to the road where he flagged for assistance. “One of our security vehicles were passing by, saw the man and stopped for assistance. ADT Security joined us in an effort to pursue the robbers. However, the victim was very traumatised and could not give us a description,” Crewe said.
Security officers managed to get the vehicle out of the burning veld.
Hartbeespoort police are investigating the hijacking and armed robbery.
