Recoveries now stand at 609 854 translating to a recovery rate of 90%.
A further 1 745 new cases of Covid-19 were identified on 1 October, bringing the cumulative total of Covid-19 cases to date in South Africa to 676 084.
The total number of active cases countrywide sits at 49 364 with Gauteng recording the highest number of active cases at 19 537 followed by the Free State with 13 255 and KwaZulu-Natal with 5 853.
A further 132 Covid-19 related deaths were reported on 1 October, 49 of which were from KwaZulu-Natal, 41 from Mpumalanga, 14 from Free State, eight from Gauteng, seven from North West, seven from Northern Cape and six from Western Cape.
This brings the total number of Covid-19 deaths to 16 866.

The cumulative total of tests conducted to date is 4 209 049 with 21 132 new tests conducted since the last report.
