The first ‘Clean up Hartbeespoort Dam’ project by Wildlife and Environmental Society of South Africa (WESSA) in conjunction with Brits Hartbeespoort Rotary Club and Birdlife Harties, takes place this Saturday, 14 November.
Residents are requested to join the clean-up day which starts at 06:00 at the Schoemansville Resort in Waterfront Street.
The clean-up will focus on cleaning up of rubbish on the dam verges and in the water with the help of boats. There will also be a snare removal sweep of the northern shore woodland areas and wetlands.
The clean-up will be combined with an angling competition at the resort.
Depending on the number of people who join the clean-up, teams will be allocated to different areas from Ifafi to the dam wall. Bags, sponsored by Plastics SA will be provided to volunteers.
And there are prizes up for grabs for the most rubbish collected!
Panarottis is sponsoring pizza and the Water Shop is sponsoring water for volunteers and other sponsors such as Vovo Telo, Remax and V8 Roadhouse will see to prizes for the winners.
During the fishing competition the challenge is to catch the biggest Carp and Bass.
An entry fee of R150 per angler is payable and the two anglers who pull out the biggest carp and bass, win R2 500. Only those fishing will be required to pay an entrance fee at the resort
