Police arrested three suspected hijackers in a hijacked vehicle in Brits on Friday, 27 November, and seized a firearm and ammunition.
“ Members of the Brits police’s Crime Intelligence Unit, Tactical Response Team as well as Hartbeespoortdam K9 unit, acted on information about suspicious men in a silver Renault along the R566 Rosslyn road near a fuel station in Brits. The police approached the suspects and searched the vehicle, discovering an unlicenced revolver and five live rounds of ammunition,” said police spokesperson, Maria Nkabinde.
The three men were arrested. “Further investigation revealed that the vehicle was allegedly hijacked in Pretoria West in October 2020.”
The three suspects, Samson Magarire(35), Jacob Brander (34) and Moses Mashaba (33) appeared before the Brits Magistrates’ court on Monday, 30 December 2020, on charges of possession of suspected stolen motor vehicle and possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition. They were remanded in custody and will appear in the same court on Monday, 7 December 2020 for formal bail application.
