Four armed men opened fire on a security officer on patrol in De Wildt on Tuesday, nearly hitting him when two bullets penetrated the security vehicle’s windscreen.
Hardus Oosthuizen (28) of Maximum Security was called out by farm owners to patrol the area after shots were heard. “I drove up the dirt road through farms in the Silkaatsnek area of De Wildt and encountered four men in blue overalls on the road. When I was about two metres from them, they pulled out firearms and fired shots at me. Two bullets penetrated the windscreen,” Hardus said.
He returned fire and the men fled into the bushes.
The Mmakau police with the police’s K9 unit and CPF members searched the area for the men, but they could not find them.
