According to police spokesperson, Maria Nkabinde, Vincent Lebea (38), appeared before the Brits Magistrates’ court on Tuesday, 2 February 2021, on charges of hijacking, armed robbery and possession of suspected stolen vehicles. The second suspect is still in hospital.

The two men, impersonating traffic police, stopped two trucks carrying copper on the R511, forced the guards at gunpoint out of the truck and into a vehicle’s boot before fleeing with the trucks.

The trucks were found through tracking devices at two different locations and a police chase ensued.

“One of the suspects was wounded during a shootout and the police arrested both.” The wounded suspect will appear in court once he is dismissed from hospital.
