A 25- year-old father appeared before Brits Magistrates’ court for the alleged attempted murder of his son.
Samuel Sihlangu (25) was arrested in Limpopo on 25 March after trying to kill his five-year-old son on the mountain in Broederstroom on 20 March.
According to police spokesperson, Captain Sam Tselanyane, Sihlangu’s three children visited him for a weekend at his house in the Schaumburg informal settlement. He returned two children to the mother and took the little boy up into the mountain and stabbed him repeatedly.
Sihlangu phoned the mother the next day and told her to go to the top of the mountain to fetch the child’s body. “She notified the local ward councillor who lobbied the community and went to rescue the child. He was found still conscious and transported to the local hospital for medical treatment and was later discharged. The police followed information and the suspect was subsequently apprehended.”
Sihlangu was remanded in custody and appeared in court again on Tuesday,06 April 2021 for formal bail application.
The District Commissioner of Bojanala Sub-district 1, Major General Modisagaarekwe Mosimanegape condemned the incident and said those perpetrating crimes against the most vulnerable in society will face the full might of the law.
