Two alleged armed robbers who were planning a house robbery in Brits were arrested on Wednesday, 21 April, after the police were tipped-off about their plans.
“Crime Intelligence officials, working together with members of the Brits Tactical Response Team (TRT) and National Intervention Unit (NIU), reacted swiftly on a tip-of about conspiracy to commit house robbery at one of the residences in town. The suspects’ vehicle; a Nissan Almera, with three occupants was seen arriving at the targeted house,” said police spokesperson, Captain Sam Tselanyane.
The three men got out of the vehicle and proceeded to the house, but one noticed the police and pointed a firearm at them. Police allegedly shot and wounded the armed man. ” As a result, he dropped his firearm and fled on foot while the other two were cornered and arrested.”
Jonathan Mathunduluka (25) and Sifiso Manana (42) appeared in the Brits Magistrates’ Court on Friday on charges of conspiracy to commit house robbery, pointing of firearm and possession of unlicensed firearm, and were remanded in custody until Wednesday, 28 April 2021 for their next court appearance. The firearm and the vehicle were confiscated for further investigation.
