The popular Race to the Sun cycle challenge is back after COVID-19 regulations were relaxed, and a large number of cyclists from all over South Africa will tackle the gruelling 167km (100-mile) off-road mountain bike journey from Hartbeespoort Dam to Sun City on Sunday, 9 May.
The starting point of Race to the Sun is at Schoemansville Oewer Club and race timing will officially start at the Hartbeespoort Dam wall. The first water point will be at 52-kilometres at Magalies Citrus.
Riders will enjoy passing canals and farm roads en route. Waterpoint 2 will be at Roodekopjes Dam, 77 kilometres in, which is also the relay team handover point.
Water points 3 & 4 will be close to Mogwase at 106km and 130km. Riding from Mogwase, riders will see the crater of Pilansberg and head straight to the finish at Sun City.
If you are an early bird, go cheer the bikers on on their Race to the Sun.
