An urgent warning is issued to pedestrians in Hartbeespoort, especially in the Rietfontein area, after armed robbers overpowered unsuspecting pedestrians in four incidents over the weekend.
“We request pedestrians to try and arrange alternative transport as we are concerned about their safety,” said Romano van der Spuy, spokesperson for the Hartbeespoort community policing forum.
On Thursday at 19:25 a pedestrian on his way home from work was robbed at gunpoint after two women and a man in a Toyota Quantum stopped alongside him on Van der Hoff Road near Sunway and held him at gunpoint. “Both women were armed with firearms and the trio robbed him of his cellphone, shoes and money before speeding away.”
On Saturday around 12:50 a female pedestrian on her way home was approached along Beethoven Road by a man. He assaulted her and robbed her of two cellphones, handbag, money, house keys and a remote.
Later at 18:00 two robbers armed with a firearm held a man at gunpoint along Van der Hoff Road near Ten Rooms while on his way home from work. They stole his money and two cellphones. Thirty minutes later another pedestrian was robbed in the same area by presumably the same two men. “They grabbed him, strangled him and demanded his belongings. They fled with a laptop, cellphone and his ID document amongst other things.”
