Three in court for bank card fraud

The police arrested three men at a fuel station Hartbeespoort last Thursday for using cloned bank cards to buy fuel.

The three men, Christopher Duncan (45), John Mtlileng (40) and Prince Matsembe (37) are accused of having used cloned bank cards at fuel stations in Brits, Mooinooi, Rustenburg and Hartbeespoort over a period of time.

“According to information available at this stage, the suspects were traced by investigators from the banking institution, who alerted the police. It is alleged that the accused have been running a scam wherein they allegedly used cloned bank cards to purchase diesel at various fuel stations,” said Maria Nkabinde, spokesperson for the police. Upon their arrest, the police were taken to an address in Amandasig, Pretoria North, where card cloning devices and diesel tanks were found.

The three suspects appeared in the Brits Magistrates’ Court and were remanded in custody until their next appearance.
