Two children, aged five and eight, drowned in an irrigation canal at Bokfontein near Brits on Thursday.
Police spokesperson Captain Aafje Botma said according to a five-year-old eye witness, three children were playing next to the irrigation canal around 13:00. A boy, Blessing Mmolotsi (8) and a five-year-old girl, Simphiwe Moloi went swimming and disappeared under the water.
Community members recovered the body of the boy a few kilometres downstream at a retaining wall later on Thursday afternoon.
