Five bogus traffic cops arrested

Five suspects, pretending to be Tshwane Metro Police Department (TMPD) officers, were arrested by the police in the Moonooi area near Brits on Wednesday, 18 August.

Police members, busy with a crime prevention operation, noticed the five bogus metro officers and approached them.

The suspects were found in possession of a Tshwane Metro Police uniform and a firearm of which the serial number had been erased.

“The TMPD welcomes the arrest and can confirm that the suspects are not TMPD officers and the vehicle used does not belong to TMPD. Investigations are ongoing to determine how the suspects got hold of the TMPD uniform. We urge anyone who might have any information regarding this incident to contact the nearest police station or TMPD on 012 358 7095/6,” said TMPD spokesperson, Senior Superintendent Isaac Mahamba.
