One of the convicted murderers in the gruesome Mooinooi murders case in 2017 was additionally found guilty of raping five women and sentenced to another life sentence and an additional 90 years imprisonment in the Pretoria High Court on Monday.
Alex Modau (39) has been serving two life sentences for the double murders of two Mooinooi women, Joey (32) and Anisha (30) van Niekerk after he was found guilty of kidnapping and murder.
While still on trial for the murders, Mudau was arrested for five rape cases committed between 2008 and 2010 in the Majakaneng and Mooinooi areas.
Police have also linked him to three housebreaking cases.
Police spokesperson, Maria Nkabinde said Mudau’s DNA was linked to five rape cases in Majakaneng and Mooinooi.”
Modau has been in detention in the Kgosi Mampuru prison in Pretoria since 2017 after his arrest for the murders of the couple. Modau’s role in the Mooinooi murders was allegedly to go on a spending spree with the two women’s bank cards after they were murdered. Joey and Anisha were kidnapped, tortured, raped, and hanged and their bodies burnt afterward.
The High Court on Monday sentenced him to life imprisonment for one of the rape cases and 15 years imprisonment for each of the other four cases.
He also received 10 years imprisonment for each of the three housebreaking and theft charges.
