Four men, impersonating police officers, pulled over and hijacked and robbed a courier vehicle at gunpoint near Brits on Wednesday morning.
According to Chris Degenaar of Afrique du Sud security services, the courier vehicle was stopped on the R511 Thabazimbi road at 09:25 by four men in plain clothes in a champagne-coloured Toyota Fortuner. The four men identified themselves as police officers. The bogus cops pulled out firearms and forced the courier employees into the back of the courier vehicle before driving onto a dirt road. They fled with items from the courier vehicle.
“A farmer on a quad bike noticed the suspicious activities on the dirt road and contacted Afrique du Sud. Our officers went out to the scene and heard the courier employees calling for help from inside the vehicle. They were freed and the police were alerted. According to the courier employees, the bogus cops were in possession of police identity cards and other equipment.”
