Minister for Public Enterprise Pravin Gordhan, accompanied by Minister for Social Development Lindiwe Zulu, visited Brits on Thursday during an inter-ministerial COVID-19 vaccine outreach to encourage communities to get vaccinated.
The Bojanala district is the epicentre of COVID-19 cases. The North West health department said Rustenburg, Madibeng and Moses Kotane are particularly targeted to encourage vaccinations. Only about 20% of the North West population has been vaccinated.
The ministers visited vaccination sites at Brits Mall, in Brits town, as well as the taxi rank and a site at the De Kroon informal settlement to inspect the vaccination sites and encourage community members to get the jab.
They were accompanied by MEC Boitumelo Moiloa for Social Development, Kenetswe Mosenogi from Economic Development and Tourism and MEC for Coghsta Lina Miga.
Their visit formed part of the inter-ministerial outreach in North West lead by Deputy President David Mabuza. The inter-ministerial committee is visiting provinces where vaccinations rates are low.
