The Minister of Police, General Bheki Cele, will visit Brits on Friday to launch the National Safer Festive Season Operation.
The minister will be joined by the deputy minister of police, Cassel Mathale and the national Police Commisioner, General Khehla John Sitole and the operation kicks off at the Brits Sportgounds.
The police’sannual Safer Festive Season Operations will be launched under the theme “extending our reach through blue light visibility”. These operations are aimed at making South Africa a safer place during the busy festive season.
As part of the campaign, police will conduct operations countrywide until 31 January 2021.
The focus will be on visible policing and conducting special crime awareness and prevention operations. The Safer Festive Season campaign will focus on combatting aggravated robberies, crimes against women and children, enhancement of border security, enforcement of Liquor and Second-hand Goods Acts, enforcement of by-laws, road safety as well as activities to combat the proliferation of illegal firearms.
The minister and his entourage will visit taxi ranks, shopping centres and demonstrate a show of force. Community members are invited.
