A 58-year-old man was arrested after vigilant police officers stopped a bakkie with stolen goats on Friday. The man tried to bribe them and he was arrested for bribery as well.
“The Hekpoort Police were conducting routine crime prevention patrols when they stopped and searched a white bakkie and found 17 unmarked goats to the value of approximately R51 000. The driver produced a fake permit and offered members an amount of R9 700 to let him go. The 58-year-old man was arrested for possession of suspected stock theft and bribery,” said police spokesperson, Sgt Gloria Maswanganye.
“Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect has a pending case of stocktheft and bribery at the Hartbeespoort police.”
Station Commander of Hekpoort SAPS welcomed the arrest and thanked the members for their continuous efforts in rooting out criminals around Hekooort. She also appealed to farmers to adhere to the stimulation of the Animal Identification Act and the Stock theft Act, which control the movements of animals to prevent stock theft.
