A 38-year-old man from Skeerpoort was arrested for murder after shooting and killing a 32-year-old man with a self-made firearm.
Jaco Smith appeared in the Bits Magistrates’ Court on Friday, 6 May, for allegedly murdering Jacques Kotze on Wednesday, 4 May.
According to police spokesperson, Maria Nkabinde, the incident took place on a smallholding at Skeerpoort around 19:00. She said after Smith shot Kotze with the pipe gun, he was transporting him to a hospital in Brits but realised on the way that Kotze was dead.
“Upon realising that the victim was dead, the suspect drove back to the smallholding in Skeerpoort and called an ambulance. Medical personnel certified him dead. The suspect was immediately arrested at the scene,” she said.
“Investigation into the matter continues.”
