Hartbeespoort – All ten gates open

Heavy rain since Wednesday had caused flooding in parts of Gauteng. The northern parts of Pretoria were the most affected.

The Department of Water Affairs opened the ten sluices of the Hartbeespoort Dam this morning and the Crocodile River, Hennops and Jukskei Rivers are in flood up to Thabazimbi. People are warned to be cautious and avoid low lying areas and bridges.

Up to 80 mm rain has been reported in the northern Pretoria area, and over 100 mm in Centurion.

A man is missing after his car was swept down a river at Honingneskrans near Onderstepoort, north of Pretoria, this morning, Tshwane emergency services said.

On Wednesday night, another car was swept down a river in Doornpoort. The occupant managed to escape, but emergency services were still looking for the vehicle.
