André glides into world’s top 3

André capped a successful year by attaining the podium in the overall classification, finishing third by the narrowest of margins after winning the first task of five.  André was also on the podium as part of the winning sponsor’s team.

The competition was based near Saint Leu on the western side of the volcanic island, which is situated 100 miles from Mauritius.

This was the third world cup event André took part in this year.

This latest result catapults André into the top 50 of the FAI world paragliding rankings where he has set his sights on the top 10 or 20.

André has represented South Africa at numerous World Championship and World Cup events around the globe since 2000.  He has won many local events over the last 15 years and holds two continental speed records.  He has attained the podium in World Cup events on two previous occasions, finishing second in Sun Valley, USA (2012) and winning the South African event in 2013.  André received the coveted Lewis-Lang “Pilot of the Year” trophy awarded by the Aero Club of South Africa in 2013.

André continues to dominate the local competitive paragliding scene as the top ranked SA paragliding pilot.

“Reunion was huge fun!  We had a number of younger up-and-coming pilots with us where we managed to achieve third place as a nation, which was a first for South Africa at world cup level,” he said.
