Eskom published a notice this week notifying all parties who are affected of its intention to cut the electricity supply to the area.
“Madibeng Local Municipality is currently indebted to Eskom in the amount of R90 569 882.94 for the bulk supply of electricity, part of which has been outstanding and in escalation since September 2014,” the notice read.
“Madibeng Local Municipality’s breach of its payment obligation to Eskom undermines and placed in jeopardy Eskom’s ability to continue the national supply of electricity on a financial sustainable basis”
Eskom says in order to protect the national interest, it has become necessary to disconnect the electricity supply to Madibeng.
The interruption will affect the whole of Brits, Damonsville, Primindia, Oukasie and Letlhabile.
“Eskom recognizes that the indefinite disconnection of electricity supply may cause undue hardship to consumers and members of the community and may adversely affect the delivery of other services.”
The interruption of electricity supply for Madibeng will result in scheduled disconnection at the following times:
Monday to Friday: 06:00 to 08:00 and again 17:00 to 19:30
Saturday and Sunday: 08:30 to 11:00 and again 15:00 to 17:30.
Kormorant is awaiting the Madibeng municipality’s comment on the notice.
