Hartbeespoort falls apart

A few potholes at the entrances to the suburbs were recently fixed, but the rest are left to grow bigger day by day.

The traffic lights at the Hartbeespoort High School have been non-functional for two years and those at Xanadu have been on the blink for the past year.

Water pipes have been bursting continuously for the past months and the sites left in shambles after repair work. Hartbeespoort is starting to look like a construction site. Sewage has been running down the road at Village Mall for the past week, the pump stations are overflowing and in Refentse sewage runs past residents’ homes. Streetlights in Melodie have been without globes for months.

Illegal vendors on the R511 have been given notice to vacate, but no one is enforcing the notices. In the meantime indigenous trees in reserves, the Green Belt and the Magaliesberg Biosphere are being chopped down daily and nothing is being done about it.

Hartbeespoort councillors have requested action from the Madibeng Municipality and are awaiting a response. In the meantime residents in Ward 30 (Meerhof, Xanadu, Birdwood, Ifafi, Melodie and Rietfontein) have requested an urgent meeting with the Madibeng municipal manager, mayor and other relevant officials.
