Rapists get 16 years, life

“The accused raped a 14-year-old girl in Bethanie in October last year. The girl was on her way to visit a friend when the accused kidnapped her with force and took her to his house where he raped her,” said Brits police cluster spokesperson, Warrant Officer Mpeile Talane. “The convict was arrested on 13 October 2016. Brits Cluster Commander Major General Kesentseng Eunice Makgwane congratulated the investigating team on the success and urged police members to continue serving the community with pride and dignity.”

A 28-year-old rapist and robber was sentenced to life imprisonment in the Brits Magistrates’ Court last Friday. The accused raped a 52-year-old woman and robbed her of her cellphone in December 2014, at Letlhabile near Brits.

“At the time of the incident, the victim was on her way from home to her workplace when the accused pulled her into the bushes. The accused then threatened her with a knife and raped her. Upon sentencing the accused, the court also declared him unfit to possess a firearm in terms of Section 103 (g) of the Firearms Control Act, 2000 (Act No. 60 of 2000).”
