Family held up by five armed robbers

A family from Welgegund, east of Saartjiesnek near Broederstroom, was held at gunpoint, tied up and robbed during a home invasion on Tuesday night.
A woman (32), her daughter (8) and brother-in-law were in their house on a smallholding around 20:30 when the five robbers, armed with firearms, a crowbar, knobkierie and sjambok broke through a door to gain entry into the house.
“The brother-in-law was in his bedroom when he saw the curtains at the window move. Two men armed with firearms pointed him through the window, told him to be quiet or get shot and asked him for the easiest way into the house,” said Romano van der Spuy, spokesperson for the Hartbeespoort community policing forum.
While the two held the man at gunpoint through the window, three more men broke through a sliding door.
The woman and her daughter were in a bedroom and were confronted by one of the robbers with a firearm. “He told them not to look at him and keep quiet. They were forced into the other bedroom where all three were tied up.”
The robbers ransacked the house and stole television set, tablet, four cellphones, three laptops and a large amount of cash before fleeing.
“The woman’s husband, who was at the neighbours at the time of the robbery, returned shortly after the robbers had left. The police, security companies and community members cordoned off the area and searched the bush, but the robbers had escaped. The police have indicated that all efforts are made to trace the robbers. It is suspected that they are linked to other armed house robberies in the area.”
