Zinde shouted “F**k you, funny f**kheads. Where’s that b*tch?” just before he was led to the court cells.
The trial was postponed to today (Thursday) for a formal application by his advocate for a another referral to Weskoppies Psychiatric Hospital in Pretoria for mental observation.
This will be the second application for him to be referred to Weskoppies. This application is connected to the alleged attack on his father, Lebohang Manote, in his Walkerville home in Vereeniging in November last year. Zinde stayed with his father while out on bail. He allegedly attacked his father with a glass and tried to strangle him. His father sustained serious injuries.
A private psychiatrist John Winecove, found that Zinde is a schizophrenic. During his previous observation at Weskoppies, a psychiatrist found that he suffers from no mental illness.
Charges of attempted murder and assault were added to his charge sheet of murder and possession of drugs after the attack on his father and his wife.
Zinde was arrested in June last year after his mother’s body was found in the boot of her car at their house in Pecanwood. Hope Zinde (50) died of head injuries.
Her body was found after family members became worried when they could not reach her. Zinde allegedly refused family members and security staff access to his mother’s house. The police were then contacted for assistance.
After his initial appearance in the Brits Magistrates’ Court, Zinde was referred for mental observation, but a panel of experts declared him fit to stand trial, and found hat he did not suffer from any mental disorder when he allegedly killed his mother.
In January, Zinde’s attorney applied in the Brits Magistrates’ Court to have his client readmitted to Weskoppies for a computed tomography (CAT) scan of his brain and an electroencephalogram (EEG). It was denied.
Zinde remains in custody.
