Young Expendables celebrate sweet victory

The ecstatic Young Expendables celebrate sweet victory as they hold the massive Winter Tournament Cup.

The team won the winter soccer tournament they played on Friday and Saturday, 16 and 17 June. In just three games, nine goals were scored. Five of those goals were scored by Itumeleng (Zlathan) Ramashala and four by Tshepang (Madubula) Letsebe.
The Young Expendables beat their oponents Mokolokwe United 3-0, Berea-Albion Football Academy 3-1 and Kelebogile Football Club 3-0. “They were extremely happy,” said the team’s proud chairman, Japhta Lelaka. “This was their first tournament ever, and they won it.”
To celebrate their win, the team management will hold a “cup celebration party” for the boys at the Crocodile River Mine’s soccer field on 2 July. “We will be cooking for them and their guests and will provide soft drinks,” Japhta explained. All members of the community are welcome to attend the party. Japhta says that for this event, they still need sponsorships of soft drinks and meat.
He emphasises what an important role the sponsors play in their success. PicknPay sponsored three soccer kits, 14 pairs of soccer boots, 24 squeeze bottles and 22 back packs as well as constant financial support to pay for transport to and from the games. Romans Pizza, Sediba SuperSpar and AfriForum made sure the players stayed hydrated with oranges and water. He also makes special mention of Mashao’s Transport who gave them special rates.
A second Young Expendables team is on the rise – the ladies soccer team. “They will be playing in the Rustenburg league from 1 July and in Muthotlung this Saturday.”
Again there is an appeal for sponsorship of soccer balls and training cones for the ladies team. The biggest lack of all, however, remains the need for land where the team can, in Hartbeespoort, have their own soccer field. “We want to reach out to as many children in the community as possible, and need our own grounds to do so. We would be so grateful to Madibeng municipality or the community if they would allow us to use a piece of land and call it our home field.”
Anyone who would like to make contact with Japhta with regards to sponsorship can call him on 082 792 1746.
