Update: N4 and R104 closed again

Residents of Majakaneng have barricaded the N4 with burning tyres on Sunday night

It is unclear what sparked the unrest.  Some reports suggest the residents are unhappy after the shooting of a local man allegedly by a farmer. It’s understood three men were stealing oranges from the farm when the owner shot at them, killing one instantly, according to the news site EWN. The other two managed to flee unharmed but the body of the victim has not been recovered.
The incident took place over a week ago.

Other reports indicates that a toddler was kidnapped in the area and this insidend sparked the unrest.

Residents were  throwing rocks at passing cars traveling between Brits and Rustenburg on the N4. Majakaneng residents are demanding that the farmer be arrested and threatening to burn his house.
A community member, Collen Mahudu says the farmer has fled and they don’t know his whereabouts.
“The situation is very tense here in Majakaneng. The community members are angry and they have blocked roads, N4 to Rustenburg has been blocked. They went to the farmer’s house and he was not at his house.
“We wanted to retrieve the victim’s body. The police must know where the man’s body is, the farmer must tell us of its location.”
