Vultures – Keep a look out

At this time of year fledgling birds raised at the centre are leaving their nests. The birds are experiencing a first time experience out “in the wild”. They do sometimes get into trouble.

Vulpro CEO Kerri Wolter says of particular concern is the current state of the water hyacinth covering large portions of the dam. “The birds do not distinguish that the green plant is floating on water and find themselves in trouble if landing on the weed” Wolter said. “These are Vultures raised in the wild leaving their cliff ledges for the first time. They land anywhere they can and often inside estates, gardens, the dam etc and they just need a little help and support to get them back flying.”

Should you see any vultures grounded anywhere in the area, please immediately call Kerri Wolter on 082 808 5113.
