Mmakau residents close road after five months without water

The protest started on Sunday and is currently still ongoing.
“The municipality has supplied a few water tanks but not enough for everyone and the water was too dirty to drink or bath newborn children in. We have an orphanage, pensioners, sick and disabled people and no water. We have asked the Madibeng ward councillor if someone has to die first before we get water,” a concerned resident told Kormorant.
“Our pleas fall on deaf ears. The municipality does not care. Why can’t they use that R100 000 they pay for the mayor’s car every month to help us get water,’ another resident said. “We have visited the water purification plant and the pipes that are supposed to supply Mmakau with water are dry. Why can’t the municipality find out what the problem is and fix it?”
The Kormorant has already requested the municipality to urgently address the crisis last year, but had no response. We have again asked them for comment and are awaiting a response.
