Pupil admits he wanted to kill Brits school secretary

Esbé Koster (50)

Two teenagers, aged 18 and 19, appeared in the Pretoria High Court on Monday in connection with the murder of Esbé Koster from Brits on 22 November 2016.
The two teenagers (16 en 17 at the time of the murder) are accused of hijacking, kidnapping and shooting the 50-year-old woman. Koster worked as a secretary at the Rabboni Private Christian School where the two boys were pupils. She was murdered shortly after school when she gave the two teenagers a lift, and her body was discovered in the veld alongside the Letlhabile road by a motorist a few hours later.
In his plea statement that was read to the court, the 18-year-old said that he stole the firearm from his father’s safe the night before with the intention of robbing someone the next day. He took the firearm to school in his bag and after school waited at Koster’s car with his co-accused and asked her for a lift. She agreed and while they were driving, he pointed the firearm at her and told her where to go. She was forced to stop along the old Letlhabile road and his friend tied her hands with masking tape. According to the accused Koster tried to take the firearm from him and he shot her in the head twice.
“I admit that when I shot her, it was my intention to kill her.”

He admitted that they left Koster’s body along the road and drove her Volkswagen Citi Golf with her laptop and other computer equipment to his house in Letlhabile. He parked the car at a neighbour’s house where the police finally found it.
The boys were arrested at school the next day.
Judge Bert Bam found him guilty on charges of murder, kidnapping, robbery with aggravating circumstances, illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition, as well as theft because he stole his father’s firearm. He remains in custody until his sentencing on 22 March.
His co-accused pleaded not guilty to all the charges and his case will be heard in the Pretoria High Court on 18 June.
