‘Madibeng in dire straits and almost in a state of collapse’ – DG

This became evident during a meeting between National Director General of Corporative Governance and Traditional Affairs Mr Daniel Mashitisho and the Department of Local Government & Human Settlements Senior officials led by its Head of Department Mr. Phihadu Motoko. The meeting dealt with the progress made since the interventions was evoked on the ten dysfunctional municipalities and the Bojanala District by National Government in so far as governance and service delivery is concerned.

The Cabinet resolved to invoke section 100(1) of the constitution in the North West Province to establish an Inter Ministerial Task Team to assess the challenges facing the province.
The National Director General has told the head of the department that within three working days a small task team must be established from within his department and other role players to develop programme of action in supporting identified municipalities.

Head of Department Phihadu Motoko emphasized that it is evident that there is a need to strengthen working relations between locals and the district with regard to water services and improvement of bulk infrastructure.
The other municipalities are:
1. Ditsobotla (Lichtenburg)
2. Mamusa (Schweizer Reneke)
3. Lekwa-Teemane (Christiana)
4. Tswaing (Delareyville)
5. Naledi (Vryburg)
6. Maquasihills (Wolmaransstad)
7. Mahikeng
8. Ramotshere Moiloa (Zeerust)
9. Kgetlengrivier (Koster)
