Madibeng Municipality grinds to a halt after computers are repossessed

According to information the computers were removed, causing a shutdown of all electronic municipal services. Residents and businesses could not pay bills, buy electricity or renew licenses.
An informed source told the Kormorant that Madibeng pays approximately R4 million per month to information technology companies and the shutdown is the result of non-payment.
In a statement, municipal spokesperson, Tumelo Tshabalala said the shutdown was the result of a “dispute with the contractor providing the Information Communication Technology services”.
“The municipality would like to apologise to consumers who could not get services due to the network system which was down for the better part of Friday and Monday. The municipality has met with the management of the company concerned and expects systems to go online gradually throughout the day.”
