The Democratic Alliance in Madibeng tabled the motion earlier this month, requesting that it be introduced at the next council meeting next week. However, the Speaker responded that the motion will not be tabled during the council meeting but that “a date for a special type of meeting” will be set.
This is the second time that a motion to remove Mothibe from office has been refused to be heard at a council meeting. In May a motion of no confidence was also tabled and was expected to be debated during a council meeting the end of May. However, during the meeting the DA was told that a special meeting would be held to discuss the motion. The meeting never took place.
Kormorant has asked the municipality why the Speaker refused to put the motion on the council meeting agenda but has not received a response by the time of going to press.
