Brits man hijacked at his gate

“The man arrived at his home in Patrys Avenue in Voëltjiedorp, Brits from the Lanseria Airport around 22:00 and stopped his silver Ford Ranger outside his house to open the gate. According to the victim he was approached by two men, both wielding firearms, and forced inside his vehicle. They drove off with the man and he was eventually dropped off in the bushes between the Rosslyn road and Bundu Inn near Hornsnek,” Brits police spokesperson Sergeant Tumelo Menyatso said.
“He was assisted by members of the Tshwane Metropolitan police who took him to Brits police station.”
The hijacker fled with the man’s vehicle and cash. The vehicle was recovered by Tracker in Soshanguve on Tuesday at about 02:00. The suspects are still at large.
“While the police are working hard to proactively curb and reduce these crimes, it is important that members of the community take precautionary measures by applying the following safety tips,” Menyatso said.
• Lock your doors and only leave your windows about 5 cm open before driving off.
• Never pick up hitchhikers and do not stop along the road at deserted areas, even if you need to relieve yourself.
• Be aware of your surroundings when you stop at a robot or stop street.
• If your car is bumped from behind and you do not feel comfortable with the individual/s involved in the situation, drive to the nearest police station for help.
• Do not use your cell phone while driving, unless you have a hands-free kit. Talking on your cell phone is against the law and it is also a huge distraction.
• If you suspect that you are being followed, drive to the closest police station or public area like a fuelstation.
