A 72-year-old Hartbeespoort resident has tackled a 850 km cycle tour to raise money for bursaries for less privileged students.

Nico van Eck, a member of the Harties Cycling Club started the 9-day journey in the 1965 Ride for Education from Heidelberg to Queenstown on Wednesday.
The 1965 Ride is an 850km cycle tour between Johannesburg and Queenstown to raise funds for an educational scholarship and bursary fund for deserving students. The cyclists are all amateur volunteers who believe strongly that the most important priority in our country is to improve education. They all raise their own sponsorships to support this initiative.
“I believe in improving the education of our youth to enable them to get or create work and so add value to South Africa by reducing the unemployment rate,” Nico says.
Nico needs to raise R30 000 for this cause. If you would like to sponsor him on his ride, make a payment to account Education Endowment Fund npc, Nedbank 1137352671 and use Nico van Eck as a reference.
