A decade of serving the NSRI
Cheers rang out from the Hartbeespoort NSRI base this week as Arthur Crewe was officially re-elected as Station Commander of NSRI Station 25.

Arthur Crewe
This marks a decade of unwavering dedication, leadership, and community service for Crewe, who continues to be the heartbeat of maritime safety on the Hartbeespoort Dam.
Over the past ten years, Crewe has led countless missions with precision, courage, and humility, earning the respect and admiration of his crew, local authorities, and the broader Hartbeespoort community.
One of the most notable incidents under his command occurred in September 2024, when Station 25 successfully evacuated over 100 partygoers from a local commercial vessel. The swift, coordinated response turned what could have been a tragedy into a textbook example of calm under pressure and expert rescue work.
In addition to headline-making operations, Crewe and his team have continuously supported the South African Police Service (SAPS) with numerous search and rescue missions, demonstrating outstanding inter-agency cooperation and a relentless commitment to saving lives.
“Arthur leads from the front — calm, capable, and always looking out for his crew and the people we serve,” said a fellow volunteer. “We are proud to serve under our leader and look forward to another successful season of saving lives and keeping our waters safe.”
The re-election of Arthur Crewe is not only a vote of confidence in his leadership but a celebration of the spirit of volunteerism and service that defines the NSRI. Here’s to many more years of courage, safety, and excellence on the waters of Hartbeespoort Dam.
