Police in Mothotlung are investigating a case of murder and another of attempted murder after a 38-year-old man was shot and killed at an ANC meeting in Mothutlung near Brits on Sunday.

A woman, aged 30, was wounded by a stray bullet. Ofentse Nkomo was standing outside the Mothotlung Community Hall where he attended an ANC meeting.

“According to information available at this stage, reports suggest that he was outside the hall when a white BMW vehicle entered and stopped in the yard. It is alleged that two occupants wearing face masks alighted from the vehicle and opened fire on the man. In the process, a woman was struck on her left thigh by a stray bullet. The suspects then jumped into their vehicle and fled from the scene,” said police spokesperson, Brigadier Sabata Mokgwabone.

He said the victim was certified dead on the scene by Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS), while the 30-year-old woman was taken to hospital for medical treatment. The motive is unknown at this stage. No one has been arrested and investigation into the matter continues.

ANC North West spokesperson, Kenny Morolong decribed the attack as barbaric and said that he hopes the suspects will be apprehended soon.
