Two armed robbers, who robbed a tavern near Brits of a large amount of liquor, freezers and other equipment, were arrested and appeared in the Brits Magistrates’ Court on charges of armed business robbery.

Matodzi Shuma (22) and Jabulani Ngwenya (29) were apprehended on Tuesday, 22 September, after an intensive investigation following the tavern robbery in Mabaloka in May.

According to police spokesperson, Maria Nkabinde, four armed robbers stormed the tavern on 25 May and held four people at gunpoint. “The victims were taken to a room and told they were going to be killed,” she said.

The robbers loaded 25 cases of liquor, two freezers, a music system, ice buckets, a mattress and the victims’ cellphones in a Volkswagen Caddy and fled.

“Intensive investigation into the matter led to the apprehension of the two accused at Maboloka Village. Police managed to recover stolen properties at another tavern in Letlhabile.’ She said the police were tracing the other two suspects.

The duo will re-appear at the same court on Thursday, 30 September 2021, for formal bail application.
