Five armed robbers stormed a fuel station in Broederstroom on Tuesday night, assaulted the cashier and fled with money and cellphones.

“The cashier was alone in the fuel station shop at the Lanseria Road T-junction around 19:30 when two men entered.

One went to the fridges while other asked for airtime. The next moment three more stormed in. The cashier was threatened at gunpoint, ordered to lie on the ground and was assaulted when the robbers asked for the key to the safe,” said Romano van der Spuy, chairman of the Hartbeespoort community policing forum.

“The fuel station has a drop safe and the robbers could not get to the money. They took cash from the till and two wallets and cellphones from the cashier before fleeing.”
